The production of wooden calendars mainly involves several different production methods, each of which has its own unique characteristics and applications.
Wooden chip calendar: This is a calendar made by the Hezhe people, and the production method is simple and practical. It is made by bending tree strips into an oval circle, tying a string and putting it through the wood chips. This calendar uses the lunar calendar to count days and months, reflecting the wisdom and culture of the Hezhe people.
Wooden calendar: The original wooden calendar was very simple, consisting of a rope and 30 small wooden strips. Each wooden strip has the same length, width and thickness, with a hole in the middle, and is strung with a rope and hung on the wall. The time is calculated by moving the wooden strips. When all the wooden strips are pushed to one side, it means that a month has passed. With use, the Hezhe people continued to improve on the original basis, and finally made a scientific, standardized and practical wooden calendar.
Wooden perpetual calendar: This is a more complex handicraft, involving the fixing of gears and mortise and tenon structures. During the production process, the internal gears need to be aligned and then fixed with mortise and tenon structures, and finally a small and exquisite perpetual calendar is produced. This calendar is not only practical, but also has certain artistic value.
These different production methods show the diversity and practicality of wooden calendars, from simple wood chip calendars to complex wooden perpetual calendars, each with its unique historical and cultural value.
